Spring Hill Little League Weather Policy

Rain

  • All practices and games are on unless you hear otherwise from your coach.

  •  If it rains once a game starts, the umps make the call on whether to continue or cancel after a discussion with our UIC.

  • Little League players may continue a game during rain or wet conditions if the umpire, coaches or other Little League official has determined that the field is safe for play, or will be made safe using quick dry material and/or available tools.

  • If games are cancelled, we will alert coaches with as much advance notice as possible. Our policy is to make a league decision no later than 4pm on weekdays and 8am on Weekends.

Lightning

  • If lightning is detected 10 miles from our field, adults must immediately clear the field of all players until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike.

  • Players are to stay in the dugout if available or inside their vehicles. Players at Evans Park are to return to their vehicles.

  • Wait time to resume a game will be 30 mins

  • Umpires may continue the game if lightning is not seen for a reasonable amount of time -- about 30 minutes -- or cancel the game

Severe Weather Alerts

  • Severe Weather Watch: Once a severe weather watch is announced, the board will prepare to stop play and secure the facilities. We will monitor the weather conditions to determine playability and safety of the facilities and its users.

  • Severe Weather Warning: All play will stop. All players, spectators, coaches and league officials must leave the facility in an orderly manner. The facility will be closed until there is notification that weather conditions have cleared enabling safe use

  • Tornado Watch- If a Tornado Watch is in effect at 4pm central on weekdays and 8am on weekends, the board will prepare to stop play and secure the facilities. We will monitor the weather conditions to determine playability and safety of the facilities and its users. Our first priority is the safety of our players and families, and every Tornado Watch that is issued will be closely monitored to determine games for that period.

  • Tornado Warning – If a Tornado Warning is in effect at 4pm central on weekdays and 8am on weekends scheduled games for that warning period shall be canceled.  Games that are scheduled for that same day/evening and are outside the warning times then those games may be played as long as weather conditions and field conditions permit.

Heat Index:

  • When the heat index is at 104 or above, no games or practice will be conducted.

  • When the heat index is between 95 and 99 degrees, all outdoor play should be limited to no more than two hours, with water/rest breaks at least every 15 minutes.

  • When the heat index is between 90 and 95 degrees, water/rest breaks should be provided at least every 15 minutes.

Cold Weather

  • When snow and/ or ice are present on the field, practice or games will be canceled.

  • Practice or games will not take place if the temperature with wind chill is below 35 degrees at the 6u-8u divisions and below 32 degrees for all divisions at the 10u-12u divisions.

  • During cold weather days, we ask coaches to use their discretion about practice.

Result of a Rainout -

  • If a rainout call occurs the game is considered official, if the bottom of the fourth inning has been completed.  This means that the team currently in the lead is the game's winner even if the game cannot be played to completion.

  • A tie, at the time a rainout is called during an official game, suspends the game until play can be resumed on another day.

  • Additionally, if a rainout occurs prior to the completion of the fourth inning, the game is to be resumed on another day, even if one team is in the lead.

    • In both instances, play begins immediately where it stopped, with players in the same positions -- including on bases if necessary -- and the number of balls, strikes and outs consistent. - If a rainout occurs before one full inning, then the game will start over on another day as if it were a brand-new game.
